Study Title: Relationship between Islamophobia and Religiosity

Please read this information carefully before deciding to take part in this research. It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. When clicking the box at the bottom you are consenting to this study.

What is the research about? I am a final year Psychology undergraduate at the University of Southampton. This study will be used as my final year empirical research project. The main objective of the study is to investigate how prejudice and religiosity of an individual related. Are the ways that people internalize their religion and religious personality (exclusivism of religion) have effects on their level of prejudice against the Muslim (Islamophobic)?

Why have I been asked to participate? Any Non-Muslim who is aged 18 and above can take part in this study should you wish.

What will happen to me if I take part? You are requested to fill up an online survey that is 15 minutes long or less. You will be asked a series of questions on your religious involvement and your view on Islam and Muslims.

Ideally you should complete the study when you are alone at your computer. Please take your time to respond to the questions thoughtfully and openly.

Are there any benefits in my taking part? Yes, there are benefits to your participation of this study. Firstly, you will be given 2 research credits for your time if you are University of Southampton’s student. Secondly, you will contribute in assisting a psychological research in further understanding intergroup processes and issues on prejudice and Islamophobia specifically which is on the rise nowadays and indirectly help in formulating solutions to these issues.

Are there any risks involved? You might find some of the questions to be sensitive as it involves questions asking your personal view on religion, prejudice and touching on sensitive issues.

Will my participation be confidential? Your participation in this study is anonymous. All data are treated as confidential.

What happens if I change my mind? You may withdraw your participation at any time during the experiment with no penalty, by closing the web page as your participation is strictly voluntary. If you decide to withdraw after you have completed the study, you will need to contact us. Any information you have provided will not be used in the study if you choose to withdraw from the study.
