A journaling study on musical immersion
We ask you to participate in Immersion Journaling study, which investigates people’s musical experiences when they feel connected or involvement with the music. You are invited to the study because you might be suitable to take part in the study. We seek adult participants who are at least 18 years old.
This research notification describes the study and related participation and provides information on the processing of your personal data. The study will involve about 30 adult participants. This is a single study, and you will not be contacted again later.
Voluntariness. Participation in this study is voluntary. You can refuse to participate in the study, stop participating or cancel your previously given consent, without stating any reason for this and at any time during the study. This will have no negative consequences to you.
If you stop participating in the study or if you cancel your consent, the personal data, samples, and other information collected on you up to that point will be used as part of the research material as far as it is necessary to ensure relevant research outcomes.
Instructions. You are asked to provide 3 music listening experiences where you felt a strong connection or involvement with the music. Each journal entry is expected to take about 15 minutes. The study is self-paced, allowing you to decide when to progress at your own convenience.
The study consists of the following parts:
1. Background Questions: These will be completed on the next pages before starting the main part of the study.
2. Musical Experience 1-3: This is the core of the study, where you are document three musical experiences in which you felt connected or involved with the music. Each experiences will be recorded in a separate questionnaire.
Possible benefits of the study. By joining this study, you help advance scientific knowledge. You might feel encouraged to think about your daily musical engagement and get to know your musical habits.
Possible risks, harm, and inconvenience caused by the study. Participation in the study is not expected to cause any risks, or harm. We do not collect any personal data.
Study-related costs and compensations to the subject as well as research funding. Participation in this study does not cost anything to the subject. No compensation will be provided to the participant. This research is funded by the Kone Foundation, Research Council of Finland and the European Research Council.
Informing about research results and research outcomes. The study will be used for scientific publications or conference presentations. All the data will be kept anonymous.
