Formatting Texts with Wiki Notation

The wiki notation allows for simple emphasis – no matter whether in standalone texts, questions, items, or verbal scale anchors.

Tip: Use emphasis very sparingly. A homogeneous layout usually looks considerably more professional. More than 2 or 3 instances of emphasis per page tend to result in a chaotic appearance rather than in orientation.

A special form of the wiki notation is the definition of text parts “for display in the questionnaire only” by means of double curly brackets. Such text parts are displayed in the questionnaire, but not in the variable labels of your dataset or when retrieved by means of value() in combination with the format code label.

The link can be either

Only the label is displayed in the text, so SoSci Survey becomes, for example, SoSci Survey. Omit the label (Link) to have the internet address displayed in the text: https://www.soscisurvey.de is displayed as www.soscisurvey.de.

An alternative to wiki links are HTML links.

Example: Privacy Policy

You have uploaded a file PrivacyPolicy.pdf under Images and Media Files in your survey project and would like to link this PDF in the welcome text.

Important: The text must use the display mode “Simple text”. If you use the display mode “HTML code”, please take a look at HTML links.

Insert the link into the text as follows.

You will find details in our privacy policy.

Important: The file name must be written exactly as the file is named after uploading. Upper and lower case (also in the file name extension .pdf) must be correct as well.
