Hello and welcome to the Doctorate Decision Platform (Promotions-Entscheidungs-Plattform, PEP)!

We believe it is important that the decision for or against a doctorate is well-informed and carefully considered. This platform is designed to help you with that.

“We” are representatives of the partner institutions of the Berlin University Alliance (BUA), consisting of Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

A doctorate means that you delve deeply into a topic in your field of study and independently gain new insights – and ultimately earn your doctoral degree. This is exciting, but also a great challenge that requires a lot of time, motivation, and perseverance.

Some people also see a doctorate as an important step in their career – for example, to improve their job prospects or to advance in academia or industry.

This tool helps you figure out how well a doctorate suits you at the moment and what might motivate you to pursue it. It helps you to think honestly and in an informed way about your decision – whether you really want to go down this path or not.
