Information about the study “Wanted and unwanted childhood sexual experiences, cognitive development, and sexual interests in children or adults among men from the community”

We would like to thank you for your interest in our online survey on the development of sexual interests in minors and adults. Your participation is voluntary and choosing not to take part will not have any consequences for you. Before you decide about your participation we want to inform you about the online survey. This survey examines how individuals living in the community have been growing up, with a particular focus on wanted and unwanted sexual experiences as well as cognitive and sexual development and other developmentally important factors as well as your sexual interests in individuals ranging from children to adults. Past research has primarily focused on imprisoned men and, thus, we want to shed light on the experiences of community men with and without sexual interests in minors. Completing the questionnaire will take approximately 20 minutes.

Please note that you can only be included in the current survey if you are a man who is sexually interested in children before or during puberty. Men with a dominant sexual interest in adults will be recruited on other websites.

At the end of the questionnaire, we will ask for your age, sex, height, and previous convictions for sexual offenses. This is necessary to explore whether different groups of individuals in the population show different patterns of responses.

Compensation

Due to the anonymity of the setting, we cannot compensate you for your participation. However, every participant who completes the survey can choose to donate $1.50 to B4U-ACT (http://www.b4uact.org/), which will be paid by us. After data collection is completed, we will transfer these donations (max. $300) to B4U-ACT. Please write us a note at the end of the survey if you do not want us to donate your share to B4U-ACT.

Data protection

The survey is completely anonymous. We will not ask for information that renders you personally identifiable, such as your name or your address. Your privacy is protected by the server www.soscisurvey.de (no storage of IP addresses; use of SSL encryption with a signed certificate; server is secured against unauthorized access according to common standards; access to the server is SSH-encrypted; the questionnaires do not use any cookies). If you decide to take part, you are free to withdraw from the study at any time and without giving a reason. Submission of a completed questionnaire implies consent to participate. Partially completed questionnaires will be deleted manually. Please note that due to anonymization it is not possible to delete your data after having completed the survey.
